Just a 40 minute drive from Banff, along Hwy/AB1w, through the scenic Banff Nation Park. The bridges are built for wildlife e.g., Elk, Moose etc., to cross the Hwy. Safely. The lake is situated 3 miles from Lake Louise Village. Here you will find a few Shops, Restaurants, Accommodation & Filling Station.
Lake of the Little Fishes by the Stoney NakotaFirst Nations people.In 1882 a Stoney Native led a Canadian railway worker named Tom Wilson to the lake. He was the first white man to see it and named it Emerald Lake. Two years later it was renamed Lake Louise after Princess Louise Caroline Alberta (1848-1939), the daughter of Queen Victoria.
ACTIVITIES include hiking trails exist around the lake. Hiking trails include trips to Saddleback Pass, Fairview Mountain (2,744 m (9,003 ft)), Mirror Lake, Lake Agness Big Beehive, Little Beehive, Devils Thumb, Mount Whyte, and Mount Niblock. Some of these trails are open to mountain Biking and horseback riding, and the surrounding mountain faces offer opportunities for rock climbing. Kayaking and canoeing are popular activities during summer, and a boat launch and rental facility are maintained on the north-eastern shore. The nearby Lake Louise Skiing, formerly known as Lake Louise Mountain Resort, offers amenities for alpine and Cross-Country Skiing, as well as heli-skiing and snowboarding. The lake can be used for ice fishing and ice skating in winter, while the surrounding area offers settings for snowmobiling, dog sledding, and ice climbing.
