Nanaimo, also known as Harbour City, is situated on the east coast of Vancouver Island. Approximately one and half hours drive (68mls) north of Victoria, the capital City of British Columbia. There are ferries from here to Gabriola, Newcastle and Protection islands. BC ferries run to Vancouver from Departure Bay Terminal. There are also several company operation float plane services.
